At EdShift, we believe in the power of creativity to help children and young people navigate trauma, find their voice, and build a brighter future. But to keep offering these life-changing services, we need your support. That’s why we’re inviting you to join us at The Halifax Hoedown, a fundraiser that will help ensure we can continue to provide our vital work to children like Daniel.

Daniel, a bright and imaginative child, came to EdShift through a school referral. He had experienced severe domestic abuse at home and had been forced to move twice in 18 months—leaving behind friends, schools, and any sense of stability. As a result, Daniel struggled in class, often feeling overwhelmed and unable to focus. He was at risk of disengaging completely, isolating himself from peers, and developing harmful coping mechanisms.

When Daniel first joined EdShift sessions, he was hesitant and unsure. Like a cowboy stepping into new territory, he was wary of what lay ahead. But as the weeks passed, he found his rhythm. Just as country music tells stories of resilience and overcoming hardship, Daniel began to tell his own story—through art, creativity, and play.

He created monsters, animations, and new worlds where he could express his feelings safely. One of his most powerful breakthroughs came when he built a ‘biome’—a safe, thriving environment where trees grew, and characters lived in harmony. He named EdShift’s practitioner the ‘seed planter,’ recognizing the role of gentle guidance in helping him rebuild his sense of security. As his confidence grew, he started role-playing positive family relationships, imagining what love and kindness could look like in his life.

Much like a country song that starts with heartbreak and ends with hope, Daniel’s journey with EdShift helped him find new ways to express himself. Instead of self-harming or acting out, he learned to use drawing and journaling as outlets for his emotions. His confidence grew, and for the first time in a long time, he looked forward to school. His mum noticed the changes at home, too: “He has tools he can use when upset, and he is more positive about going to school. Although healing is a journey, these sessions have helped him move forward.”

Daniel’s story is a reminder that healing takes time, patience, and a supportive community. That’s exactly what EdShift provides—but we can’t do it alone. Our funding is at risk, and we need our community to rally behind us.

That’s where The Halifax Hoedown comes in. Just like Daniel found joy in creating new worlds, you can help us build a better future for children like him by attending a night of live music, dancing, and entertainment. Every ticket, every dance, every moment spent celebrating will go directly toward keeping EdShift’s services alive.

So grab your cowboy boots and join us for an unforgettable evening! Whether you’re line-dancing, enjoying great food, or bidding in our charity auction, every part of The Halifax Hoedown helps ensure children like Daniel continue to receive the support they desperately need.
