The Youthbase

EdShift@The YouthBase is a comprehensive arts base, established to support the relationship, emotional wellbeing and sexual health needs of children and young people aged 4 – 21.

We want EdShift@ The YouthBase to be:

The first-place young people turn to when they need support with their relationships, emotional wellbeing and sexual health.
A hub where they can meet peers and share similar experiences,
A creative base where they can creatively explore and make sense of their relationship through the transformative power of the arts.
A sanctuary where they feel validated, believed, and understood.
A place where they can turn to feel safe, should they need respite from the violence they are experiencing at home.
A community whereby children and their families can actively engage in their child’s support, so the family can progress towards change and achieve successes together.

WE want to:

Empower young people with the knowledge and skills to make informed choices about their relationships, emotional wellbeing and sexual health.
Have the right support and strategies to overcome their adverse experiences.
Have access to opportunities where they can learn how to become proactively involved in tackling domestic abuse and sexual violence in our community and become a force for change.

Programme of support

We offer a range of support, advice and guidance for children and young people, their families, and professionals.

As well as being home to our Nest Arts Therapy, WunderKinds School of Arts and In Touch Drop In, the YouthBase also provides children accessing our SpotLight Programme with an alternative space to have their support sessions.

We deliver enriching arts based out of school activities for children and young people and invite family members to come and visit the space, so they feel engaged in their child’s support.

We do this because children do not come to us in silo, but as part of a family. Evidence shows that children are more likely to recover from the effects of domestic abuse if the ‘safe parent’ is actively engaged in their support and organisations can fully identify the dynamics of the situation so they can thoroughly understand the risks.

We want children and their families who visit EdShift@The YouthBase to have a safe, warm and creative experience.
