Little Voices is EdShift’s Tier 3 Dramatherapy Programme, offering structured therapeutic group support for children who meet the clinical threshold for specialist intervention.
Little Voices is an evidence-informed dramatherapy programme created by the late Dramatherapist Ann Dix. It uses story, character, play, movement, and creative group work to help children recognise emotions, explore relationships, and process difficult experiences at a pace that feels manageable.
Children are not expected to talk directly about what has happened before they are ready. Dramatherapy gives them another way to communicate and make sense of their inner world.
At the heart of Little Voices is the story of ‘Little Mouse Finds a Safe Place.’ Children follow Little Mouse’s experiences and feelings as a way to explore emotions indirectly, without needing to speak about their own story before they are ready.
Through the story and linked group activities, children are supported to recognise feelings, build emotional resilience, and develop a stronger sense of trust, security, and connection.
Little Voices is for children who have been referred through Northpoint’s First Point of Contact and meet the clinical threshold for specialist therapeutic support. It may be suitable for children who would benefit from a structured, trauma-informed group programme using dramatherapy, play, and imagination.
The programme can support children who are experiencing emotional distress, self-blame, isolation, difficulty with relationships, or challenges expressing and regulating feelings.
Therapeutic group work can help children feel less isolated, reduce shame, and build confidence through shared creative activity. In Little Voices, story and play create enough therapeutic distance for children to work with difficult emotions while remaining supported by the practitioner and group.
This group model can help children experience connection, belonging, and mutual support without needing to disclose personal experiences before they are ready.
Little Voices sessions may include storytelling, creative play, character work, movement, group reflection, and activities linked to ‘Little Mouse Finds a Safe Place.’ These activities help children recognise emotions, practise emotional expression, build trust, and explore relationships in an age-appropriate way. Children are supported to take part at their own pace. The story gives them a contained way to explore feelings indirectly and develop confidence over time.
Little Voices referrals are made through Northpoint’s First Point of Contact. Unsure about the next step? Contact our team and we’ll help you understand the right pathway.
